The Best Roof Top Bars in London

When the sunshine makes an appearance, Londoners head to the roof-tops to bask in the sunshine and celebrate their good-fortune with a few drinks. With an abundance of different roof-top bars scattered around the city, there is no shortage of aerial options to visit. We’ve put together a list of some of the best roof-tops in London worth visiting – ranging from West London’s posh spots, to the more casual and edgy South London bars, there’s a roof-top for everyone and every occasion.

With great transport links in Hammersmith, get to any of these spots from LUMA Concept Hotel in time to beat the crowds and snag a table in the glorious sunshine.

West London & The City

 

The Roof Gardens, Kensington

 

With 1.5 acres of land boasting Spanish garden, Tudor style garden, a woodland area, live jazz, a fantastic restaurant and bar, views of West London from Battersea Power Station to the London Eye, plus (wait for it…) a family of peacocks strutting around, The Roof Gardens is one swanky establishment.

Owned by Richard Branson and found in Kensington, this rooftop bar is something else. Frequented by some of London’s wealthiest, expect expensive drinks and crowds of well-dressed ‘elites’.

 

SushiSamba, The City

Housed on the 38th and 39th floor of the Heron Tower, SushiSamba is a Japanese, Brazilian and Peruvian fusion restaurant and bar with absolutely stunning views of London including Canary Wharf and the Olympic Stadium. With the highest outdoor dining terrace in the city and a large range of delicious Japanese inspired cocktails, head here for a drink or two and a few nibbles to watch the sun go down.

Pergola on the Roof, Paddington & White City

Pergola on the Roof has become a sort of London institution in the roof top bar scene. With the original bar in White City, another one has just been opened this year in Paddington – a testimony to its popularity with locals.

The White City branch is a short 20-minute walk from LUMA, and you can expect white-washed wooden furniture, palm tress, comfy day beds and loads of incredible food stalls – think The Hamptons, but with British accents.

Venture slightly further into central London to find the Paddington set up. With an 850-seater capacity, it has already established itself as a greatluma party spot.

 

Radio Roof Top Bar at ME London, The Strand

Housed on the 10th floor of the ME London hotel, Radio Rooftop Bar offers astonishing view of London, including Tower Bridge, The Shard, Somerset House, St Paul’s, the London Eye and the Houses of Parliament! Serving cocktails and an impressive tapas selection, dress your best and head here for a night out.

Sky Garden, The City

A legend on the London rooftop bar scene, you’re bound to have seen a smug Instagram post of someone you know with a drink in hand and the stunning view the Sky Garden offers behind them. Housed in the ‘Walkie Talkie’ building, the Sky Garden spans three floors in one large glass dome complete with ab exotic landscaped gardens and open air terrace.

The perfect spot for a romantic drink and only half an hour on the District line, be sure to check it out.

 

East London

 

The Golden Bee, Shoreditch

Right by Old Street station, The Golden Bee is a great spot for relaxed week night cocktails, or a slightly more raucous Friday night party. With great live DJ’s and excellent happy hour deals, it’s the ideal spot for a night on the town.

Get there on the tube in 40 minutes from LUMA.

 

The Culpeper, Spitalfields

The Culpeper is a lovely pub and restaurant in London serving delicious food and cocktails. Set over 4 floors, it has a beautiful roof-top area surrounded by loads of herb and veggie gardens – this produce is then used in the food and drinks.

Head here for a few drinks in the sunshine, and if it’s a nice day, a BBQ.

Ride the District line from LUMA and get there in no time.

 

Dalston Roof Park, Dalston

Back for its 7th summer this year, Dalston Roof Top is a great spot to spend an afternoon in the sun; surrounded by public allotments and gardens, it is extremely relaxed and friendly, with loads of community events and talk held throughout the year. Dress casually and stop by for a few beers and admire the gardens.

You may have to change tube lines once or twice, but you’ll still get there in less than 45 minutes.

 

The Queen of Hoxton, Shoreditch

The Queen of Hoxton is well-known around London for its themed rooftop bar. Changing annually, this year’s theme is ‘Neverland’, with plenty of Peter Pan inspired touches. Quirky and exciting, it also holds pop up cinemas, events, BBQs etc. over the summer, so keep your eyes peeled. Get there on the Hammersmith & City line from LUMA.

 

South London

 

The Rooftop Café, London Bridge

This London gem is hidden on top of a generic, non-descript office block near London Bridge. Open year round, the rooftop is surrounded by the café’s herb and veggie garden and boasts insane views of The Shard. With pale wood decking and bright picnic benches, this shabby chic spot serves incredible brunch and a lovely atmosphere.

 

Queen Elizabeth Hall Roof Garden, Southbank

Half an hour from LUMA, n the roof of the Southbank Center you’ll find an oasis of woodland gardens, fruit trees and wild flowers. With great views of the London Eye, order some food from the little café bar, or bring your own and pop a blanket down on the picnic lawn.

 

Frank’s Café, Peckham

You really can’t get more hipster than a bar found on the roof of a multi-storey car park, where the art work of international artists is also exhibited. With a relaxed vibe, plenty of space and views of London’s skyline including the Gherkin, London Eye and The Shard, Frank’s is where it’s at. While slightly further away from LUMA than the others, the views are worth it.
